This is a recipe from rajasthan.i'm bored of the same south indian dals i cook frequently.i got this recipe from sanjeev kapoor's" khana khazana" book.i loved the spicy taste of it .and the specality in this is using 5 dals masoor dal,moong dal,toovar dal,urad dal,chana dal.
1/4 cup each of masoor,moong,urad,toovar,chana dals
green chillies 3
ginger 1 inch piece
garlic 2 pods
garam masala 1 teaspoon
onions 1/2 cup
cilantro a hand full
dhania powder 1/2 teaspoon
pepper powder 1/4 teaspoon
jeera 1 teaspoon
turmeric 1/4 teaspoon
in a mortar or grinder grind green chillies,ginger and garlic into a fine paste
cook the dals with water and turmeric.
In a pan add oil and make tadka with jeera and cloves
fry onions till light brown.
add ground paste and fry for 2 min.
add tomatoes and fry till oil comes out.
add this curry to the dal.
add red chilli powder,garam masala ,dhania powder,pepper powder and salt. cook for 5 minutes,stirring it .
serve hot with chapati and raitha.
